Save the cows...

From "You Just Don't Want To" the blog:

Last month, the United Nations published a report on livestock and the environment with a stunning conclusion: "The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global." It turns out that raising animals for food is a primary cause of land degradation, air pollution, water shortage, water pollution, loss of biodiversity, and not least of all, global warming.

I still think hybrid cars are a stupid solution to the problems our world faces, but I think it is pretty neat that with bicycles and broccoli we can nail two of the big issues fairly easily. Heck, even if you really can't use a bike to get to work, you can certainly buy less meat. Just like with a bike you can save money and save the planet.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sparkd.blogspot.com/2007/06/from-you-just-dont-want-to-blog-last.html' title='Want to save the earth? That is what happens when there is shit in the meat. You would think that the numerous outbreaks lately would keep people away, but many still believe that a meal is not complete without some sort of meat. I am a meat snob. I prefer to eat only organic grass-fed lean beef. Maybe if more people would only eat the good stuff, then the goverment would not have a reason to subsidize corn (corn is the feed choice for feedlot beef, it fattens them up quicker). Maybe then the government might choose to subsidize produce instead of corn. This would help get better quality foods to the poor and possibly make us a healthier nation. The best diet to prevent most cancers and diseases is to eat more fruits and veggies and less meat.

Cars

They break... and it is a lot more expensive than fixing your bike.

Tubes... $ 2.00, Gas $3.15/ gallon.

Oh, and going to the grocery store is a lot cheaper if you do via bicycle... no room for impulse buys.
